Summer is here and the Great Outdoor beckons - time to haul that picnic
bag out of the closet, dust down the plastic crockery, shake out the
plaid blanket, and wonder yet again how you can do variations on a theme
of cucumber sandwiches and chicken drumsticks.
Don't let a curly piece of bread and a bunch of tired watercress come between you and a good picnic - we have put together some great ideas for hampers which won't keep you slaving for hours in the kitchen, including, of course, your favourite Badger
Ales.
Veggie Variety Choose a quiche made with mushrooms and goat cheese (try the gourmet ranges in any of the major supermarkets); aubergine, pepper and mozzarella parcels (aubergine sliced lengthways, brushed with olive oil, grilled until soft. Roll each slice around a thick slice of buffalo mozzarella - the round one- and a chunk of marinated, grilled red pepper -also available in supermarkets- then secure with a toothpick); selection of fruit and an Entemanns Carrot Cake (easy to slice and easy to share).
Round of with some bottles of Badger Tanglefoot Ale Gourmet Feast
Cold Roast Duck Breasts are just as easy to cook as chicken, provided you remember to prick the skin to allow the fat to escape and roast the breasts on a bed of scrunched foil - a great gourmet alternative to the drumstick!; Jar of quality olives - such as Belazu olives in chilli and garlic; a loaf of fresh walnut bread, and chunks of cheddar and stinking bishop cheeses.
All washed down with a pint of Blandford
Fly, which will complement the strong, spicy flavourings.
Family Hamper
Put together a pasta salad, made with crispy bacon, peas, chopped sun dried
tomatoes and fresh parmesan, in a lemon and olive oil dressing; Breakfast
pie, basically a quiche with a lid, filled with four eggs (beaten), bacon,
cheese and tomato, bound together with a quarter of a pint of single cream;
some packets of all-butter flapjacks - preferably organic - and punnets of
strawberries.
Adults will find that Badger
First Gold will go well with this meal.
Happy Camping!
